Description

The Hobo Crag is a rarely visited cliff face adjacent to a Southern Pacific Railroad line. The main cliff face is around 30-40 feet tall. Don't let the smaller height fool you, the slightly overhanging granite wall hosts some challenging and physical climbs worthy of a visit. The routes are a mix of face climbing and crack climbing with most being traditionally protected although all routes are also toprope accessible if you hike up the left side of the wall.

Getting There

Take I-80 to the Eagle Lakes Rd exit. Turn (right if heading east, left if heading west). Follow Eagle Lakes Road until it becomes a broken dirt road. Park near the gate but do not block the gate or the road which continues uphill. Driving further uphill and parking near the railroad tracks would likely result in your vehicle being towed and access issues for the climbing community. Once parked. Walk up the hill until you reach the railroad tracks. follow the road along the railroad tracks (in the I-80 westbound direction) until you reach the tunnel. GO AROUND THE TUNNEL and continue along the road until you reach a metal tower that spans the tracks. The main cliff face is up the hill on the left of the tracks. You will know you are at the right cliff by the cave at its bottom.
