Description
Many Via Ferrata routes around the city of Lecco, with rock quality and climbing difficulty perhaps better than the Dolomites.
Some key areas include:
* Corno Medale + Grigna Meridionale
* Pizzo d'Erna + Resegone
* Bobbio
also within driving range are
* Monte Grona by Menaggio
* VF Tre Signori (remarkable granitic gneiss) by Bellinzona Switzerland.
* . . (famous non-VF climbing in Bregaglia + Val di Mello + Ticino).
Note that most of the VFs around Lecco are protected with chain not cable.
- - > see Photo
So a reduced-fall-distance device like the Skylotec Rider will not work there.
. . (? But perhaps something like a Fifi hook inserted into the (usually) large-hole chain links could provide protection for hard strenuous moves - in between the sometimes widely spaces chain-to-rock anchor points ?)
Getting There
Close to the big city of Milan / Milano -- with major international airport and connections to major high-speed roads, with major train and bus stations. From Zurich could be reached via Chur and (difficult) Passo Spluga / Splugenpass - (or longer on better roads by Gotthard tunnel to Lugano to Menaggio ferry).
Some VF routes are reached by lifts which can be reached by bus service from the city.
