Description Suggest change

This bouldering only area lies between Reimers Ranch Proper and North Shore inside the park. It is a minor canyon formed by bus-sized boulders located near a seasonal creek. The density of the boulders allow for copious shade and high concentration of problems. No problem is more than a minute's walk from another. The canyon and vegetation does trap humidity just after rain, so the best conditions are cold days after several consecutive dry days.

The bouldering here, for the most part, feels distinct from the short wave wall bouldering common in Austin. The majority are slightly overhanging with a few roof problems ranging from V0 to V6. Reimers sport climbers from 5.10 to 5.12 can easily have an entire season here. The holds are nice size pockets and crimps resembling the rest of Reimers. An overwhelming majority of the problems have clear landings and are easy to protect. For all of these reasons, this area is excellent for alternate to sport climbing in Reimers.

Getting There Suggest change

This area is only approved for bouldering by Travis County Park Services

Follow the directions for Reimers Ranch. After you drive past the booth, keep driving past the proper area (Climber's Canyon) and the beach towards North Bank. Before you reach North Bank (North Shore), there is a small detour left called River Bluff. Take the left turn there and park at the lot at the end of the road.

Turn when you see this sign.

Approach

Once you exit your vehicle, enter the trail at the northwest corner of the lot. You'll see the following sign and a warning about climbing:

Continue past the sign into a cutdown trail with several switchbacks towards the river. Once you reach the river trail, turn right. Follow the river trail until you reach a fork within a quarter mile. Slight-right on the fork for another quarter mile until you cross a dry creek bed and then up some log steps. Ignore the old historic trail, as it has been heavily eroded. Continue on the trail until you see a large dead tree with the bark removed. Just after the .4 mile marker there will be a trail to the right. See image:

From here you can a boulder field in the distance. Follow the overgrown trail up towards the canyon. There is a well-groomed entrance between two of the boulders without any vegetation left. The first area you enter is called The Dugout (West)

Enjoy!
