Access Issue: 2023 Seasonal Raptor Nesting Closures
Details
JULY 5 UPDATE FROM PARK MANAGEMENT:
ALL SEASONAL CLIMBING CLOSURES FOR CLIMBING AND SLACKLINING WILL BE LIFTED ON FRIDAY, JULY 7TH THIS WEEK.
THANKS, EVERYONE FOR YOUR HELP IN OBSERVING RESTRICTIONS DURING THE NESTING SEASON!
There are many seasonal raptor closures with varying dates and specific boundaries. These generally effect The Monument, Kiss of the Lepers, Picnic Lunch Wall and/or Smith Rock group, and possibly elsewhere. These usually run from February to the beginning of August, but each closure is usually shorter than this, and is dependent on the birds' behavior. Description
Cornerstone buttress is just left of the main Monument base area, separated by a deep crumbly gash. It makes up the left side of the base of the Monument proper. This fang-like buttress hosts a lineup of great 5.11 sport climbs on surprisingly solid rock. The concentration of moderate climbs make this wall a welcome addition to the Monument.
Shade early and late in the day, the left face stays shaded till mid afternoon and then goes back on the shade early evening.
All routes bolted summer 2019 by Jason Chinchen.

Getting There
Turn right after crossing the footbridge and walk along the path, following the river for about eight minutes until the trail passes directly under a very large Ponderosa pine tree. Look for a trail to your left under the tree and follow that to the base of the Monument. The Cornerstone sits to the left of the base routes and makes up the left end of the Monument’s base
