Maine Peregrine Falcons breeding season extends from mid-March through July or August. Hiking or climbing near nesting peregrines can cause abandonment and death of eggs/young. If adults are away from the nest, eggs or young can become overheated, chilled, or chicks can miss feedings. Be on the lookout for agitated falcons that may vocalize, take avoidance flights, or dive-bomb those that are too close. If you encounter an aggressive peregrine falcon please immediately leave the area, and report incidents to Erynn Call, State Raptor Specialist, MDIFW, erynn.call@maine.gov.

Description
On the southeast end of Little Bigelow mountain is a one kilometer (approx) wide cirque, with intermittent cliff bands ranging from twenty to eighty feet in height. The rock appears to be schist, and the area is characterized by vertical to slightly overhanging ledge, buttresses and slabs. Most of the climbable terrain tops out on sketchy slab, so while the area is a good beginning and advanced lead climbing area, it doesn't lend itself to beginning top-rope climber. There are only a couple of established climbs thus far, but huge potential for more.
Getting There
The cirque can be accessed from the west by the Carriage Rd, which connects Rt 27 and Long Falls Dam Rd. (See also Tofulio boulders and Carabasett boulders) From the Carriage Rd, hike or four-wheel drive up the Birthday Hill trail to the powerline. The crags are easily seen above. About a fifty minutes hike from the Carriage Rd - twenty minutes, if you can drive up Birthday Hill trail.
Climbs in the eastern part of the cirque are more easily accessed from the Appalachian Trail, the parking lot is on East Flagstaff rd. Some excellent climbing is found within a hundred feet of the AT, but knowing where to break down from the trail is key.
