The two areas Jefferson County Open Space intends to close in Clear Creek Canyon, shown on the attached maps, encompass the active eagle nests. If the Clear Creek eagles continue to nest in the active nests, these areas will remain closed from February 1 through July 31. If the eagles choose different nesting sites, the closures will be adjusted accordingly to protect those eagles during their breeding season.

Currently, rock climbing areas that fall inside of the seasonal raptor closures include:

Description

This fantastic boulder is littered with amazing, difficult problems. The rock is perhaps the best so far for bouldering in CCC, with rippled crimps, slopers, and technical feet. The wall overhangs about 20° and stays in the shade pretty much all day.

Getting There

From the bike path (see approach to Bike Path Boulders), hike along the left-trending trail, and continue up the hill as the climber's trail steepens. This trail goes up the hiker's left side of the valley, and the boulder will come into view at the last minute. It faces towards the valley, and the landing is slightly uphill. You can’t miss it.

Per Bennett LaFond: park at Catslab, and walk downstream (East) about 300 yards until you see a rocky trail cutting uphill to your right. Follow this path through a couple bends, and continue up the steep incline with a gully on your right until you come to Halfway Crooks.
