Description
Family friendly, relatively well bolted, high concentration of easier terrain, DRIES FAST, and solid hard quartzite rock.
Three prominent sectors create the "Dolomites of Kirn". Extremely strong quartzite rock forms a ridge that spans both sides of the Hahnenbachtales (cock creek valley).
-Oberhauser Rocks: Large family friendly sector with over 60 pitches. Ridge runs east and west and has a varying degree of forest cover so sun/ shade can be sought out as desired. Many routes in the UIAA V range (~5.6YDS)
-Schwarze Wand (Black Rocks): highly accessible (belay through the sun roof) little tower of rock with a neat ruin on top. Grillplatz and small playground immediately behind. A nice variety of harder movement with a bit more runout bolt spacing/ some gear supplement suggested. Commonly climbed to top in 2 pitches. Easiest pitch: left facing corner UIAA 5+ (~5.7) Hardest: right most route, 7+ (5.10++).
-Wehlenfels: a nice ridge to practice multi pitch technique on. Mostly UIAA grade 2, short sections of 4/ 5. Some bolts, supplemented with pro. About 200 meters of climbing across the ridge with ~60m vertical gained
