Polallie Creek Falls

Oregon > Mt Hood National Forest

Description

Oregon's premiere ice climbing destination; Pollalie Falls. A waterfall at around 5k elevation on Mt Hoods NE aspect.

Getting There

Park as for the Tilly Jane hut, near the Cooper Spur Ski area. Take the Cooper Spur skin track (listed as trail #643 on Google Maps) up a couple miles then cut left toward Polallie Creek. We used GPS maps to know where to cut over. The falls are visible from the ridge. We boot packed down to the falls at this point, but alternative approaches are possible that might be easier.

[Hide Comment] Combining a trip to the Tilly Jane Hut ($15 per night), with a day climbing at polallie creek, a day climbing at the eliot glacier moraine, and a day skiing makes for a great 3 day weekend mountain vacation! Aug 17, 2019

[Hide Comment] Does ice form pretty consistently in winter or does it take a certain aligning of conditions the way gorge ice does? If it frequently forms does it do so early (January? ) or does it take more freeze/thaw cycles? Jan 21, 2021
[Hide Comment] Ice formation is tempermental, not sure what has to align to get good quality ice forming. Seems to be form a little later in the season, but I've had limited exposure to the area. Mar 22, 2021
