Description

Originally named Enchanted Rock after the one in Texas this small knob encrusted formation is host to four short, but entertaining sport routes. Enchanted Boulder is shady in summer, sunny in winter, with mixed sun shade in spring and fall

Getting There

Two ways to get there: 1. Take the main trail to the north side, passing Pangaea Wall and First Corridor. Follow the trail up a rocky step past Wounded Warrior and the V  Wall. Continue contouring the base of the Tower of Babel toward the Heart Wall. From the Heart Wall the Enchanted Boulder can be seen across the wash to the south.

2. Follow the main trail to the south passing Hyperion Slab, First Corridor, and The Egg/Hatchery to the ridge. Continue west and down the hill, passing three wooden benches, toward the Heart Wall. Enchanted Boulder is across the wash, south of the Heart Wall.

[Hide Comment] The first route looks really cool. We played around on the first and second routes but were feeling a little uneasy on the dirty rock. Lots of foot slippage. I'm also unsure if the people bolting may have been taller or maybe we were just climbing differently, but for my 5'2" self, some of the clips were a bit awkward. Particularly the 4th bolt before the anchor on EB #2. I don't think the climbing is particularly difficult, we just found it to be a little dirty and awkward which made it a little harder for the grade. Jan 18, 2021

[Hide Comment] Gina...Texas Canyon is known for its unique conglomerate with pockets and cobbles (inclusions) of all shapes and sizes, which makes for fun and athletic movement. However, Texas Canyon is not known for impeccably solid stone. Newcomers to Texas Canyon climbing long established routes that have seen heavy traffic, may get the impression that the rock is clean and solid, which it is NOT, especially when you venture away from the First Corridor and it's relentlessly climbed routes.
Enchanted Boulder has received few ascents and in spite of days of cleaning will continue to feel "crunchy" (eg "dirty rock??") and shed holds of all sizes. The bolt installer stood 6' 0," but all the bolts were installed with secure clipping stances in mind. The climber in Irene Yee's photo #116709501 stands 5' 4" tall and has lead all Enchanted Boulder's routes without falls or hangs. At 5'2" I'm sure YMMV. Climb the routes again and I'm certain they will clean up and feel more secure. Work on your footwork and focus on good technique. Jan 18, 2021
