Aguirre Bouldering

New Mexico > Las Cruces Area… > Organ Mountains
Warning Access Issue: Power drilling is prohibited in the Organ Mountains Wilderness. DetailsDrop down

Description

Several very high quality blocs can be found scattered throughout the east side of the Organ's with access from Aguirre Springs camp area. I would argue that the quality of lines is far better than other local areas such as Peña Blanca or the Pizzas, although not as concentrated. Driving there is also much shorter and on paved roads, however more walking is involved. Problems are spread out and may have up to a dozen problems on them.

I have tried my best to make it as easy as possible to get around. I highly recommend using the map feature on MP to have a planned loop and using the map for approaches as there is full service in the area and everything is geotagged. Looking at pictures helps a lot for reference and almost every area and problem has a picture.

A few boulders are as close as 10 min from parking. But if you are willing to walk a bit, there is a whole lot of rock out there...

Boulders can be accessed from either Baylor Pass Trail and Pine Tree Loop from the campground area. Or Indian Hollow Trail and Sugarloaf Trail from the group site parking. Don't forget to pay the day fee of $5 per vehicle (or $10 to camp) at the info board.

Further East (down slope) one can see huge boulders scattered throughout; this area is on a private ranch. Do not jump the ranchers fence, always ask for permission if you want to scout the area. There is just as much rock uphill in open access areas.

Getting There

Drive to Aguirre Springs Campground.
