Description
Sergeant Rock and the Miscellaneous Cliffs are a collection of steep high quality splitter cracks and face routes the likes of which are nothing less than magnificently burly. Few people ever bother to go to this area but for those who do, they are rewarded with some of the best cragging at Cal Domes.
Getting There
Sergeant Rock is one of the first formations you'll come to when driving up to Calaveras Domes. You'll see the striking corners and steep walls peeking through the trees as you pass the campgrounds.
Look for the concrete bridge that goes over Cole Creek. Turn on the small dirt road just before this bridge on the left. Follow the dirt road until you reach an obvious parking area below the Aqueduct.
Follow the trail that parallels the Aqueduct. Climb over the metal stairs which marks where the Miscellaneous Cliffs are. If going to Upper and Lower Sergeant Rocks, continue along the trail for another 5 minutes. Follow the trail and look for a ladder climbing the side of the Aqueduct which leads to a narrow bridge that crosses it. Upper Sergeant Rock is just ahead. If going to Lower Sergeant Rock, don't climb the ladder. Instead, follow the trail leading down to the Lower Sergeant Rock.
