Description

This is the prominent sandstone tower seen in the distance to the north of Highway 40 when driving down from the escarpment. It has three very wonderful Trad climbs and several not-so-wonderful routes as well. The view from the summit is incredible. The rock can be very loose, but the routes I will describe to you here are relatively free of major hazards. Old wooden pitons may indicate a pre-WWII ascent of the Tourist Route.

Getting There

Take the Mecca/Jeddah highway (Highway 40) to a junction about 8 km past the escarpment checkpoint. Go right at this junction (Highway 505). Drive 7 km to a water tower on the right, and just beyond it turn right onto tracks into the desert toward the escarpment. For 10.9 km follow what appear to be the best tracks in a NNW direction toward Faisal's Finger. 4WD is recommended. The track becomes faint but does circumnavigate the tower.
