Getting There

Total time: about 1.5 hours.
Park at Long Canyon Trailhead. Hike the Long Canyon trail about 1.6 miles to a point where the trail makes a sustained left turn. Leave the trail where there is a coffee-table-sized boulder in the middle of the trail [coordinates: 34.926347°, -111.836179°] and cross to the east side of the main wash. You are now in a different drainage which soon bifurcates. The right fork climbs due east to the Land of Spires, while the left fork climbs due north toward the Sock Puppet Area. Follow this wash, hugging the right side near the top (look for cairns through sections of 3rd class gullies and ledges). Ascend up and right into the beautiful cirque on the west side of Wheatbelly and Sock Puppet spires. [coordinates: 34.932054°, -111.833211°]
