Description

Almost always sunny with areas of concentrated boulders. Without a high clearance vehicle the distance between sub areas here may require a somewhat longer approach; however, the climbs are worth the walk. Fort Sage offers many easy problems for beginners and also classic hard problems for more experienced climbers. Often there are people adventuring on ATV's and dirt bikes in the area; however, the area is generally empty and offers much peace an quiet when the dirt bikes are not there.

Getting There

For the Rock Ridge boulders, set GPS for Fort Sage road and follow for about a mile to an old jeep trail. Follow the jeep trail to the area sign and park in the obvious lot if you have a low clearance vehicle. If your vehicle can make it, continue up the obvious steep hill and following the trail to a fork and park. From the fork walk straight up the hill to The Rock Ridge Boulders.

For the Forever Young Area (2.4 miles before the old jeep trail), turn right onto the Fort Sage OHV road. There should be a large obvious sign. You should pass a camping area following this road. Shortly after the camping area this road turns into a mild ATV trail. Stay on this trail (trail number 30) all the way to the very large sport climbing cliff called Sail Rock. Park here for the Forever Young Area and Road Hog Boulder. This way is much milder of a drive. Some low clearance vehicles could likely make it the entire way; however, one little bump near the end could prove a little challenging, if that is the case just park somewhere before it and walk. Sail rock is visible from there and not that far.

*Note* - the whole area is essentially a large loop. Low clearance vehicles definitely cannot make it between sub areas. For example, following the trail from Forever Young to Taylor bay would require high clearance.
