Description
Long climbs, great exposure, and lots of vertical rock. The Moon contains two-pitch climbs that can be combined into mega 40-42m epics (bring long runners for the drag!). A distinct horizontal weakness extends to the right of The Negativity Cave and into The Moon, making a natural belay spot for two-pitch climbs, with a nice roof just above. A head-wall further up even provides a short burst of crack climbing.
The area was named by Brad Johnson, prolific developer of The Emeralds who originally saw the The Moon's potential. Brad eventually passed on The Moon, but everyone should thank him not just for pointing us to the area, but for his hard work done throughout all of The Emeralds.
WARNING: for all climbs at The Moon, rappelling from the top of pitch 2 to the ground is possible with an 80m, but a 70m will require downclimbing. Said downclimbing is 5.5 at most, and, depending on the climb, only 10-20 feet. Be aware of your ends so you don't take a fall!
