Description
This is the cliffband located above the lower headwall on Mount Tammany. The rock is of poor quality and very loose here but there's lots of route potential. Several routes have been established here by Hugh Dougher, Mark Ronca and Joey Vulpis. Venturing into this section of the mountain takes experience and is not for everybody, especially in winter. Access to this area is very difficult if anything was to happen. This area has a strong traditional ethic of being a "ground-up" area, there are no sport routes on the NJ side of the Gap and the use of motorized drills is illegal as it is on Federal land. Cleaning routes on rappel of loose rocks, dirt, and grass is encouraged. Helmets are MANDATORY when climbing at the Gap!!! If you value your safety you'll use them!!! Hike the Red Dot Trail next to the parking area and you'll be in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area and camping is free...there is an awesome campsite up high which faces Mt.Minsi, Pa, You'll wake up above the clouds. The rock is MetaQuartzite and holds pro SOLID!
