Description

The best climbing area in the state of Puebla. About 80 sports routes, from intermediate to advanced. The rhyolite cliff overlooks Vasequillo Dam (La Presa Valsequillo). Receives moderate traffic from friendly local climbers on weekends. The mosquitos are aggressive and travel in hordes: dress in long sleeves and bring repellent, otherwise, the experience could turn miserable. During the rainy season (April to November) the rock may be wet if it rained the previous evening, especially holds on easier routes.

Getting There

By car, Los Pericos is at most 45 minutes from the city of Puebla. Map it to Los Pericos. [Public transport direction apply hereon.] Once on the dirt road (Carretera a Los Cantiles), go about 3 km and until you pass a ranch on your right at a bend in the road. Continue until you see a tall cement telephone pole with a smaller road splitting to the right: park there. Take the path at telephone pole until reaching a small dirt bridge with stones set into its side (easy to miss, but if you reach a house with a tennis court, you've gone 50 m too far). A path is on your left before the dirt bridge: follow it for about 100m, keeping left, and you'll hit the crag.

By public transport, it's about 1.5 hours from the city of Puebla, brisk walking included. From the city center, take the S3 bus that says "Tetela" at the corner of Calle 15 Sur and Av 15 Poniente, or in general along Calle 15 Sur. Make sure it's headed to San Baltazar Tetela. Once outside of the city, you'll see signs for Tetela, and then for "Ecocampus BUAP", which means you're getting close. Get off the bus at a dirt road on the left with a sign for "Sn. A. LOS CANTILES." It's a 4 km walk from there; follow remaining directions above.
