Neat Rock Area
Montana
> Southwest Region
> Madison River Area
Description
The Neat Rock area encompasses a large, south facing formation on the west side of the Madison River and a myriad of boulders and smaller formations around it. Very warm and climbable in the winter if it is sunny. Ticks and/or rattlesnakes can be a problem in the warmer months.
Getting There
From Four Corners, head head west on MT 84 for just under 21 miles. Turn right on Cold Springs Road immediately after crossing the Madison River. Take another immediate right and follow the dirt road for 2.3 miles, passing many campsites. Turn left on a two-track spur road that will lead you to a parking area at the base of the main formation. This spur road is usually passable by passenger cars. There is also alternate parking in a pullout a short way past the formation on the main dirt road.
