The Ridge

Colorado > Buena Vista
Warning Access Issue: This area is closed to climbing to the public from December 15 to July 31. DetailsDrop down

This is a southwest-facing wall high up on the ridge, left of Davis's Face. It can be divided into two sections; "The Spines" on the left side, home to great moderate multi-pitch routes on very featured rock and "The Wall" on the right side, an amphitheater-like cliff home to steeper, harder climbs, on high quality granite. Most routes are between 250'-400' tall.

Caution this climbing area is not well traveled watch out for loose rock, old webbing, and wildlife.

Getting There

Drive County Road 375 all the way back to Four Mile Creek, approximately a 20 minute drive out of town (you will go past a winter closure gate and a ranch). Once you go past the ranch, the road will go through a few turns, and there will be a well driven road that splits off right (continuation of CR 375), follow it. Once down by Four Mile Creek, look off right for a gated utility road that leads uphill to the ridge. Park at a pulloff just before or after it (you will have driven just past the ridge at this point). From here, hike the service road up the hillside, back towards the ridge until you top out hill and see a candy cane-shaped ventilation pipe protruding from the ground off to the left. Here, begin to hike up on plateau towards the ridge. You now must hike up final hill to the base of the climbs, it is easiest to go up through the open/scree fields on the left side (to avoid swimming through piles of fallen trees).

You could also approach via Davis Meadow Trail, by bush waking off trail up at the saddle, once ridge is visible.

Hiking time: a solid 1.5-2 hours (but well worth it).
