Description Suggest change

Like neighboring countries of Bulgaria and Bosnia-Herzegovina, there is a lot of rock in Serbia to be climbed. Two areas in southern Serbia near the city of Nis (pronounced by some locals as "nish") have seen a bit of development - Sicevo Gorge and Jelasnica Gorge. Both are roughly 25 minutes west of Nis. A bit further south, toward the Bulgarian border, is another small area, Canyon Jerme.

A blog here ( aworldlesstraveled.com/blog…) gives some insight into the area.

There are local climbers that you can contact through this website ( serbianclimbing.com/) who speak/write  English and can give some help and advice.

Getting There Suggest change

Sicevo Gorge and Jelasnica Gorge are both roughly 25 minutes west of Nis and about 2.5 hours northwest of Sofia, Bulgaria.  Nis has all the services you would expect in a medium-sized city.

In October 2018, we stayed at a small, clean hotel in the village of Prosek for roughly $30/night (dinner with beer was an additional $8 for two people). It's on the main highway that leads through Sicevo Gorge (E-80) and about a 10 minute drive from Jelasnica Gorge. There are several small eateries and markets nearby.
