The two areas Jefferson County Open Space intends to close in Clear Creek Canyon, shown on the attached maps, encompass the active eagle nests. If the Clear Creek eagles continue to nest in the active nests, these areas will remain closed from February 1 through July 31. If the eagles choose different nesting sites, the closures will be adjusted accordingly to protect those eagles during their breeding season.

Currently, rock climbing areas that fall inside of the seasonal raptor closures include:

Skinny Legs
Stumbling Block
Tetanus Garden
Fault Caves

Description

This detached tower is perched high above and left of the Play Pen. When parked on the east side of Tunnel 6, Broken Angel is the obvious, brown pillar in the skyline when looking upstream. The climbs are very demanding and require a good head for some variable rock quality and challenging difficulty. You get lots of sun in the morning hours and shade in the afternoon. These routes were started on Jerry Garcia's birthday, hence the names....

Getting There

Park on the east side of Tunnel 6. Walk as if approaching the Play Pen. The easiest ascent of the steep, grassy cone is on looker's right up against the rock walls!

Descend the same way!

The cave hang at the base is awesome! Please wear helmets, things are still cleaning up after a lot of time spent on these lines, but still some cookies loom above....
