Description

Far southwest corner of Paugnut State Forest. State Geologist report shows this area and nearby as having the best concentration of pink granitic gneiss. In particular - two enormous black and pink grantite with gneissic banding, approximately 15-22 feet tall.

Quick and easy access, peaceful setting, relatively clear landings, safe route back down and wide variety of high-friction, solid hold types makes this a good option for indoor climbers to get the feel for outdoor bouldering on granite without having to go all the way to New Hampshire.

Good warmup spot and jumping-off point before venturing deeper into the woods for the pink granite maze area

Getting There

Far southwest corner of Paugnut State Forest

Park where pavement ends of Guerdat road or go through the rocky road to a parking area. Between the parking area and the end of the road will be a trail on the East side. Follow this trail East until you reach a stream cross it and continue towards the North. After a short moment you'll reach the end of the hill and continue East into another stream which then goes South. When that stream runs out it will become a trail once more and you'll see the boulder on your left and the water fall on your right. Bushwhacking is harder but you can follow the first stream all the way till you see the boulder.
