Description

The Chinesiche Mauer is one of the premier limestone sport climbing venues in the Tirol. From the parking lot it appears to be distant and ethereal. However, after the relatively short 20 minute approach you'll find yourself standing at the base of a wall at least a hundred meters high, with hundreds of solid and well-bolted routes.

It faces pretty much due south, but at 1200m elevation in the alps you can be climbing year round, except for the deep of summer. There may be avalanche risk if the slopes above the wall hold snow. There are several aspects, and trees at the base for belayer shade. The steeper, pocketed routes to the right of wall can seep after a period of heavy rain.

Getting There

Park at Puitbach, at a big obvious parking (kletterplatz Puitbach on google maps). You'll see the wall from here. From the parking, cross the road and walk past the farms down the dirt road across the field. Go through the gate and follow the paths left towards the wall.
