Mount Cotter

California > High Sierra > 12 - Kearsarge Pass t…

Description

A wonderful and very remote feeling peak. Mt. Cotter has two summits. The South summit is the true summit at 12,694 feet and can be climbed by class 2 slopes on the south side, the summit blocks are class 3. The North summit is a bit shorter but holds some good technical climbing. the Northeast Arete is class 5.

Getting There

A 13.5 mile approach and two high passes guard the approach to this peak. Start in Onion Valley and hike over Kearsarge Pass and gain the JMT going north over Glen Pass towards Rae Lakes. Once at Rae Lakes (Legs tired yet?), take the left to go to the spectacular 60 Lakes Basin.
