Description

Ladybug is a beautiful and picturesque canyon, lush with dense foliage and year round springs. Much of the year the creek flows through the entire canyon, cascading down small falls as it meanders towards the Sespe Creek below. From the highway, a row of massive Bigcone Douglas Fir are visible, standing guard at the canyon’s entrance. Beyond that, much is hidden, with only a few features poking out and hinting of what’s beyond.

Just inside the trees, sits Ladybug Camp. A picture perfect campsite beneath the giant trees that guard the canyon. Hiking further, rock begins to emerge from the forest. Arrival at the main area is marked by a leaning prow of stacked rock and dark sandstone, as well as a huge split boulder. Past the broken block is the Ursus area, home to the greatest density of routes in the canyon.

**Routes currently posted represent only a portion of the established climbs. My aim is to post enough now for folks to get a solid day in at each area. Check back for more updates soon.**

Getting There

Park near the Chorro Grande trailhead, and hike across the Sespe towards the canyon. Find the approach trail, on a shoulder at the canyons entrance, and then follow the creek toward the climbing.

Once in the canyon, a trail on the left (east) side of the creek makes things easier.

We spent a spectacular afternoon exploring Ladybug Canyon. This is one of the most beautiful destinations we've ever visited in Los Padres. The fact that there's quality moderate climbing here too is almost unbelievable.

Thanks for the months and months of hard work opening this incredible site to climbing, Alex! Jun 17, 2018
