For parties visiting this area, please be careful and stealthy finding the Government Trail. Use the rock and the wash when walking to the rim, avoid stepping on any cryptobiotic soil or trail making, and do not use cairns or any other markers. The Park Service does not want for this trail to become popularized because of safety reasons, and there is also a lot of crypto all over the Grandview Point, so keeping this area as wild and intact as possible is of prime importance for the health of the landscape. Also, this is not a "trail" as the term is commonly defined. It is a sometimes-loose, always-dangerous way to descend, so be diligent and safe in your route finding. There are multiple sections of 4th and low 5th class moves, with lots of exposure, making a descent with climbing packs a serious affair. An accident down there could be BAD, and a rescue could incline the Park Service to close the trail permanently. Please be thoughtful, careful, and enjoy the amazing atmosphere out there!
