Description

Albarracin is a beautiful and ancient village in central Spain, about 90 minutes north of Valencia. The village itself is worth visiting as all of the buildings are hundreds of years old, some are over a thousand years old. The history and culture of the village are on full display. Southeast of the village a few miles lies a beautiful pine forest full of hundreds of red sandstone boulders, with over one thousand of problems from vb-v14. The problems are mostly of a good height and with good landings, though there are some crazy highballs as well. This is the largest bouldering area in Spain, and the second largest in Europe. There is a well maintained trail system through the area which has been built to provide access to multiple areas of ancient pictographs. The best guidebook is "The Guidebook to Albarracin Bouldering" by Roberto Palmer

Getting There

The closest city with a major airport is Valencia. Drive north from Valencia about an hour to Teruel, then turn west and drive another thirty minutes or so to the village of Albarracin. Take the Carretera del Canto southeast from town for about ten minutes to reach the forest and the boulders.
