Description
Los Cohorros is a gorgeous natural area with several hundred mostly single pitch sport routes on compact limestone a stone’s throw from Granada.
With numerous sectors rising out of either side of the lush Rio Monachil gorge, this scenic locale is deservedly popular with climbers and hikers who take advantage of fun hanging bridges and good trails.
Recommended sectors where it is “possible to breath the vertical history of the area” are Los tacos, El faraón, Cleopatra and La araña.

Getting There
From Granada, take the southern ring road, Ronda Sur, A-395 and take the exit marked Vergeles /La Zubia/Cájar/Monachil and head towards Monachil and Cájar at the roundabout. Stay on the road heading east which turns into the GR-3202. Signs lead to Monachil and Los Cahorros.
Once at Monachil, there are signs for a large public parking lot on south bank of the Rio Monachil. Park here and hike (follow signs) up the road eventually dropping into the trail next to the river. Fastest route to Palo, Tacos, etc.
There’s also parking above town at the Era of Portachuelas. A road east leads to the trail above the gorge’s north side. This route is the quickest access to the Casilla and Eras sectors.
A nice long or short loop hike can be done by hiking up one trail, and, returning via the other.
