Getting weather forecast...
DescriptionThis relatively unknown crag is located about 20 minutes west of Silver City, New Mexico. Come here for sport climbing on sharp welded tuff that ranges from steep and juggy to vertical and crimpy to slabby and thin -- often over the course of a single pitch. If you like solitude, a diverse mix of Chihuahuan Desert flora and lovely vistas; check it out!
In terms of safety, expect loose rock and lichen due to low climber traffic. Also, expect run-outs and high first bolts. Lots of folks will want to bring along a stick clip. Finally, a crash pad can be a fun addition to all the other gear you're hauling out there, as there are numerous boulder problems scattered around.
Getting ThereFrom Silver City, drive west on Highway 180 for about 13 miles until you see Saddlerock Canyon Road on the left. Turn left here. (Saddlerock Canyon Road, though dirt, is a decent surface that most passenger vehicles will have no trouble with so long as conditions are dry.)
Saddle Rock Road turns to the right and then to the left during the next 1.5 miles to the crag parking area.
Once you park under the trees, work your way up the drainage to the west and keep an eye out for bolts.
