Description
I’ve been all over the Pahroc Range when I worked for the BLM in the early 90s and have played here all the years since. It’s about as nice a place as you could ask for to go camping with kids and dogs and still getting in as much climbing as you want.
Campground Lowercase e has one of the nicest and most convenient concentrations of climbing in the range. The small canyons behind the campground and the steep hill across the valley are full of boulder fields and crags up to about 50’ tall with hundreds of cracks, but the bouldering and sport climbing potential dominate. The rock in Mecca is well-featured and almost every square inch is climbable. There’s lots of vertical fracturing/eroding of the bedrock and many of the wide cracks are long chimneys that open up in places to small corridors with bouldering and a maze-like quality. The campground has a permanent BLM-supplied picnic table and fire ring.

Getting There
14.3 miles north bound from the junction of US93 and Hwy318 at Crystal Springs is a well groomed dirt road that crosses US93, just east of Pahroc Summit Pass. The road gets rougher near the hills but is passable by most urban centric cars. Take this dirt road north for 4.8 miles, over a saddle, to a smaller dirt road on the right. Follow this little road a quarter mile and Campground Lowercase e is in the first rocks on the right.
