DescriptionThe Stacked and Packed Area is a brown basalt crag on the north side of the road low in the canyon. Park at or past the footbridge across the river on the north side of the road. Cross the bridge or cross the river and walk up talus to the cliff.
One of the most obvious features is the "stacked and packed" route which is a shear face with a splitter and horizontal cracks for pro. The routes are trad. Bring webbing or bail material unless it starts getting climbed regularly.
There are more routes to be established by someone with an eye for diamonds in the rough.
These routes were established by a group of ski bums visiting and working at Elk Meadows Ski Area in 1996/1997. Some details have been forgotten. in caseThe resort closed shortly after for over a decade and reopened as Eagle Point around 2011.
Getting ThereDrive up the canyon toward Eagle Point. The Elk Meadows Wall is in the lower part of the canyon on the north (left) side of the road. Look for a Basalt cliff line with the shear face and splitter of the "Stacked and Packed" route. The wall is just up canyon from the foot bridge that crosses the river. You could cross there if you don't feel like getting wet. Exact mileage or mile marker is unknown. The spot on the map is dropped in approximately the right place.
