Mill Creek MetroParks

Ohio > Northeast Ohio

Description

The Mill Creek MetroParks are a district of parks along the namesake creek that runs off from the Mahoning River, from Youngstown through to Boardman. Among the Parks, there is a golf course, a botanical garden, a historic mill, an 11-mile paved bike way and more; along with nature preserves and recreational areas. Bouldering (low climbing without ropes), along with bouldering specific safety equipment, i.e. helmets and portable bouldering pads, is permitted within the area encompassed by Bears Den Road, Cross Drive and New Cross Drive according to park rules (as of November 12, 2019). Roped climbing and rappelling are prohibited.

Getting There

The Parks run between OH-11 and OH-7. I-680 touches the Northern tip, OH-62 and OH-224 run through the middle, and I-76 (the Ohio Interstate) runs through the Southern Portion of the Parks.

Park Rules

Park rule change as of November 12, 2019:

20.6 RAPELLING, CLIMBING, BOULDERING
No person is permitted to climb, rope climb or rappel hillsides, ravine areas or rock faces on Park District
lands, except in designated areas. Bouldering (low climbing without ropes), along with Bouldering specific
safety equipment, i.e. helmets and portable bouldering pads, is permitted within the area encompassed by
Bears Den Road, Cross Drive and New Cross Drive. All roped climbing, rappelling, and the placement or
use of fixed or removable bolts, anchors, or hardware is strictly prohibited.

In order to keep bouldering access open, do your part and make sure to follow all park rules and regulations, practice LNT ethics, and encourage others to do the same.

[Hide Comment] This type of DB listing is pointless: no route names, beta, or photos.

[Hide Comment] Mike Gray: The idea was that if more areas within the park opened in the future, they could be added to this page. Having different sub-areas would make things easier to find than having every problem listed on one page. Feb 16, 2020
