Description

Not "Alkatraz", Alkazar! This former quarry offers some great technical climbing on solid limestone. The base is all very flat, and below is a small playground. For that reason, not just climbers visit this peaceful area. Expect to see many people enjoying the outdoors as they walk, jog, ride, skip and jump by, past, and around you. The rock is actually a good distance from the main trail, but due to the ease of approach, many people are unhindered in coming straight up to the base.
Most routes here cap out at 25m, though many are around 15m tall. One, however (the furthest to the left), appears to go all the way to the top of this three-tiered quarry, which could be a bit more than 35m. I didn't try it, so I can't comment. The routes tend to be technical, and some not very well protected with big runouts and no possibility to place gear. Start well below your limit and get a feel for it before pushing yourself.

Getting There

The approach is along the river and takes roughly ten minutes. The ground is even and the path paved for a majority of the distance. Approaching in the morning, just keep heading north towards the sunny rock until you reach an open amphitheater of rock. This is Alkazar.
The GPS coordinates on the map are correct for the location of the crag.
