Outlook Rock

Colorado > Independence Pass > Twin Lakes Area

Description

This is the obvious arched crag seen on your right uphill from the Entrance Slabs, Dump Wall, etc. on the way up The Pass heading west. It contains a few good bolted slabs and a couple longer climbs up to 2 pitches.

Getting There

Park at the old quarry as for Black Slab on the dirt road across from the campground. Locate the steep jeep trail going up the far slope of the quarry, and follow this to the base of the crag.

Per George Bracksieck: to approach Outlook Rock, turn right from westbound CO Hwy 82 onto a gravel road that is 2.5 miles west of the village of Twin Lakes. Drive a short distance to the end of the road at an old quarry. The rock is obvious, above and behind the quarry. Hike up an old, loose 4WD track that is right of the quarry.

Outlook Rock is obvious in the upper center of the picture. We're not using the best approach to it because we were trying to find Black Slab, instead. The poor maps and directions published in the Independence Pass and Leadville guidebooks led us astray.
