Description

Apremont is one of the largest areas in the whole forest, and new sub-areas and problems are added on a regular basis. There is something for everyone here, from short to long-ish approaches with some bushwhacking, from old-school alpine circuits to modern testpieces, there are thousands of problems from 3A to 8C. Some areas are slow-drying but others are up on a ridge and are an excellent option in winter.

It is a popular area not only with climbers but also schools, local joggers and cyclists, especially in the spring. A blue trail will take you to several nice viewpoints throughout the gorge and can take between 1 and 5 hours depending on which loop you do.

Getting There

From Fontainebleau, take D607 NW as for Cuvier. After you pass Cuvier on your right, turn left at the roundabout and enter Barbizon. Go left at the first Stop sign, then left again when you get to the townhall (Mairie) crossing and follow this road until you reach a large carpark with a cabin (Caverne des Brigands, a food stall that serves drinks and grub). This is where you park for most areas.
