Getting weather forecast...
DescriptionDramatic site under the southwest side of the Aiguille Verte with great view over lower Mer de Glace, with historically important rock climbs. Rumored still to have rock routes comparable to the Envers ... yet not so well-known Perhaps because its hut is so small? Refuge de la Charpoua - [ website ].
Climbing objectives include Les Drus (Grand + Petit, or traverse), Diamant des Flammes de Pierre, L'Évêque, Cardinal, Aiguille Verte.
Or some might just go up to the refuge/hut for the amazing views.
Getting ThereTake the cog railway up from Chamonix to Montenvers, then down the lower Mer de Glace glacier, along that a ways and across it, and turn left up NE to the Refuge de la Charpoua (N45.9241 E6.9553)..(elev 2841m)
warning: Access has changed since 2016, so check the French websites for the latest correct route.
