Five Mile Draw

Arizona > Central Arizona

Description

Sandstone canyon along Silver Creek. There are sport routes on the north side of the wash and also upstream (east and south) in Silver Creek canyon. There is some great bouldering downstream (north) also with some very odd bolts here and there. CAUTION: This is a very popular place to go shooting and the shiny bolts on the north wall of the wash have been an irresistible target for the wonderful residents of the area. Although we apparently don't have a lot of snipers in the area there are several bolts that have lost some of the rock surrounding them. We will be working on replacing them with glue-ins (hopefully to make less of a target) but in the meantime use at your own risk. The routes upstream have no bullet holes but tend to be much stiffer.

Getting There

5 miles north of Snowflake. If coming from Snowflake look for a turn to the east (right) just before the bridge over the draw. There is an adot sign identifying the draw so it's hard to miss. Don't forget to close the gate behind you as there are cattle grazing in the area at times. Follow the dirt road to a wash that feeds into Silver Creek. From the parking area walk to the wash and look for an obvious path into it.
