Description Suggest change

"Some rise, some fall, some climb to get to Terrapin."

This is a beautiful and secluded wall above a pond called "Sheep Tarn" just to the west of the small pass between Ross Lake and the Wasson Fork of Jakey's Creek. Route development is a continuing process here. I placed a summit register on this sharp peak on 8-6-17 and found no evidence the summit had been reached previously although it might have been climbed without the summit party leaving a register or cairn.

The descent is the same for all routes: scramble down to a large grassy ledge with a huge and prominent dead tree and rappel off the tree. I found a very old sling on this tree. I do not know what route was climbed by the person who placed this sling, and I do not know if they visited the summit. I am claiming first ascents of the routes I climb until someone can inform me otherwise.

Getting There Suggest change

Easiest way: Whiskey Mountain Trail to Ross Lake Trail to large meadow at its end, then bushwhack 1 mile west, passing Whiskey Mountain Pinnacle on the way.
Other possibilities: up the Wasson Fork headwaters (no trail) from Jakeys Fork Trail, across Whiskey Mountain from Whiskey Creek, or scree descent from Shale Mountain.
