Description

The Pumphouse Area is an outcropping of exquisite granite. The area is on BLM land and is accessible via .... Nothing is yet known regarding routes or grades. There are a few boulders very close to the parking. It is believed that dispersed camping is allowed in this area as well. Please submit any route info if known.

Per Scott Dodd: after a fire on the hillside above Pumphouse Boat Launch in 2009, these nice granite boulders were exposed. Wandering boulderer and rafter Scott Dodd cleaned and climbed everything he could in 2010. Ascents before this time are unknown, so we named the problems assuming first ascents. These are quality boulders with great landings. Most problems are short, so just a couple pads will do except for the Pumphouse Boulder that is somewhat highball. Don't miss Pumphouse Arete, V3**, Horizon Lines, V3*, Bowline, V5****, and Hungry Lumberjack, V4***.

Getting There

From Kremmling, CO, take Trough Road which leads to access points along the Colorado River. Just before the "Pumphouse" boat launch area, turn left onto Forest Rd. 107.

Per Scott Dodd: from Wolcott, CO take 131 toward Statebridge. Turn right onto Trough Road, and go about 11 miles to Pumphouse Boat Launch. After passing Pumphouse, take the first or second right turn on a dirt road that forms a semicircle. 4x4 vehicles are recommended, but higher clearance 2WD vehicles can make it. A ten minute walk from Trough Road will get you to the boulders spread over the hill.

Photos

My buddy and me put up a bunch of boulder problems up here around 2011/2012. Let me see if I can find some photos and the topo Scott made. Jul 18, 2018
