Description Suggest change

6530 Rd. is a mostly undeveloped area (to my knowledge) with granite boulders along a crumbling cliff. There is tons of potential for bouldering on sharp granite similar to Marmot Rocks. There is also potential for trad climbing on the cliff band above the boulders, though much cleaning would be necessary.

The cliffs and most of the boulders are technically within the boundary of Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, but the area is not accessed through any of the park entrances, so I have included it in the Montrose area.

Getting There Suggest change

From Main Street, head North on San Juan. Turn right onto 6530 Rd. after a short ways. Continue on the road until it turns to dirt, and keep going. You'll pass Flat Top Road on the right. After a while, you'll drive through the parking lot for Elephant Skin Recreation Area. Keep going through the adobes along a wash on your right. There will be two sharp switchbacks that take you up through a wash. From here, the road goes straight towards the cliff band. Park when the road does a 180 degree left turn. Most of the boulders can be accessed by hiking up a motorcycle trail that cuts off the right side of the road.
