Description [Suggest Change]

Dark Mountain is a part of Rocky Mountain National Park. It has overnight camping fees but no day use fees. The terrain is difficult with dead and downed trees due to massive pine-beetle related die-off. The gneiss rock varies in quality. There are mostly large boulders and slabby sections with some fun, short walls.

Getting There [Suggest Change]

Hike into McGregor Camp from the Lumpy Ridge TH. Turn East (left) onto the Dark Mountain Trail, and at about 1/2 mile, you'll pass boulders that extend down the hill to the trail on your right. Hike up the hill, scrambling over dead & down trees to the apparent horizon due North. Keep an eye out for a small notched red wall. Access to the top anchors is an easy scramble or a longer hike up and around the back of the wall.
