Victoria Peak

International > N America > Belize

Description

Victoria Peak is the second highest peak in Belize (Doyle's Delight is the highest) and requires climbing to reach the summit. An ascent of Victoria Peak is on the lifetime bucket list for many Belizeans.

The trip involves about 50km of hiking through rugged jungle terrain with high heat and humidity. Normally two or three nights are spent in hammocks in the jungle on the trip.

Only guided trips are allowed to the peak, with trips generally running between mid-February and May of each year (the dry season).

The peak is administered by the Belize Audubon Society. See their website for more information.

Getting There

The Victoria Peak trail starts from the headquarters of the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary near the village of Maya Centre.
