DescriptionKentheim is a popular area with locals as the rock quality is good, the climbs go up to 20 meters and the approach is about 5 minutes. This sandstone offers plenty of slab climbing with great pockets and a few fun cracks thrown in too.
There are 27 routes overall with a good mix of easy and moderate. However, given that this area has been climbed for many many decades, the grades are pretty sandbagged.
Nuts and hexes are pretty useless here but a few cams can definitely be used for the high first bolts and a couple other areas with really nice cracks.
The area gets morning sun and afternoon shade so choose accordingly.
Also, the guidebook says that topping out is not allowed. However, the locals seem to still walk up around to the top and setup top ropes. So it's a bit unclear what's allowed and what's not. When in doubt, ask and/or do what the locals do.
Getting ThereDrive towards Calw, from where you are and take the B463 south to the tiny village of Kentheim. There's a parking lot just before the bridge for the railroad. Park there and continue walking in the same direction until you come to "Roetelbachweg." But do NOT take that street. There's a grassy path uphill that may not seem like a path at first. Follow it slightly uphill back in the direction you came from and the crag is <3min from there.
