Description

The Main Wall at Rattlesnake point is likely the most trafficked climbing area in southern Ontario. Its proximity to Toronto, short approach, and the staircase that makes reaching the bottom of the cliff a breeze make it a destination to new and experienced climbers alike. Teaching is allowed at all of the Rattlesnake areas meaning that you are likely to run into a few guides or instructors running courses here. It is also a popular destination for kids programs which results in several of the easy lines being occupied for most of the day. On a busy weekend you may see top-ropes being run from every set of anchors along the face. With so much traffic, this is the most polished climbing area at Rattlesnake. This makes many "easy" moves extremely insecure. The old adage of "limestone" being "slimestone" applies here more than most places.

Always make sure to wear a helmet while climbing here as in addition to the standard risks of rock-fall, tourists and hikers up top sometimes like to toss things over the edge. Also be ready to answer questions from curious onlookers as you set up your anchors up-top.

Getting There

Once you are at Rattlesnake Point conservation area continue to the upper parking lot. From the upper parking trail head you are going to follow the Red / Yellow trail blazes 250m south to the Pinnacle lookout. Slightly to the east you will find stairs to the base of the cliff. There are routes to both the right and left of the stairs.
