Description

This is the intact portion of the Escalante River. Do not confuse the majesty of this place with the bathtub-ringed-lake found downstream. The upper Escalante is a preserved piece of perfection and adventure climbing wilderness. Hiking, canyoneering, and pack-rafting are the three major ways to access the river. The right boat is the best way to reach the harder stone. Prepare for overnights. Protect this place.

Getting There

You can jump in where highway 12 crosses it or drive into Escalante and take Hole in the Rock Road to any major northern trailhead. The Egypt trailhead is probaly the best place to hop on if you are in search of good rock and short approach to the river.
