DescriptionGandhi Thekdi is a popular tourist destination featuring a monument with a water point. Approximately 1km drive from the main park entrance.
A beautiful forested area protects the climbs from the crowds. Given its close proximity to the Tiger Safari (captive tigers and lions), you often hear the big cats roaring in the background as you climb. Given than this place is bang inside a bustling city teeming with skyscrapers and slums and expressways, this can be a surreal experience! The climbs are in shade for the most part of the day; quite pleasant by Mumbai standards.
About 8-10 routes, depending on how you count variations. Some are only top-ropes and all are top rope-able, easy to set up TR. Has sharp angled rock, so a separate doubled up extender rope or rope protector be used to set up anchor. 50m rope suffices, the routes are 15-20 meters
The typical itinerary is to warm up on the boulders that you encounter first, just as you come down past the toilet. Then set up top rope/s before proceeding further below and start climbing.
Getting ThereThe boulders and sport climbs are about 50m below the Gandhi Thekdi monument. Park your vehicle there and hike down past the toilets and right, scramble down for 5 mins to the base of the routes.
Alternately, if you parked your car at the Main Gate of the park, or came by bus/cab, take the alternative hiking trail past the safari/picnic spot, 1.3 kms walk directly to the base of the climbs.
