Rapid City Area Climbing

This includes all the areas in and around the city of Rapid City.

RAPID CITY OVERVIEW:

Rapid City has rock climbing for everyone. With climbing right in town! You can spend the day enjoying the endless trails, great cuisine, or breathtaking views of Black Elk Peak in the distance. Summers tend to be really hot and dry, and temperatures can easily reach 100 degrees farinheiht. Winters can be cold but tend to stay fairly mild. You can easily climb year-round if you know where to go. If you need gear, check out Roamin Around Outdoor shop downtown, Rapid City, in Main Street Square. 

LIMESTONE CLIMBING:

 If you are looking for hard limestone sport climbs, check out The VC, Bethlehem, and the Dalton Lake area. If you don't have much time, you can go to Falling Rock on the outskirts of Rapid City.

SANDSTONE CLIMBING:

The Hansen-Larson Memorial Park, " M-Hill" is a great option if you have limited time. The crag and bouldering are in town and can be accessed via a short 5-minute hike from the parking lot. 

Cliffs of Dune is a seldom-visited crag off of Nemo Road. It is mainly top rope with a few trad and sport climbs mixed in. It could be a fun place with more traffic. 

Bogus Jim, Rock Maze, and The Bone Collector tend to be the best Sandstone bouldering options on the outskirts of Rapid City. 

BOULDERING: 

There are many established bouldering areas around Rapid City. The Rock Maze off Nemo Road boasts a ton of awesome Dakota sandstone boulders. The location is popular for a number of non-climbers using the natural rock Maze as a playground.  The "Maze" area is worth checking out even if you don't boulder. V0-V9 with good landings.
