A fairly newly developed area, Big Soddy Gorge offers a mix of tall, exposed sport and trad routes. Big Soddy Gorge is south facing, making it a good winter destination and an alternative to its nearby shady neighbor, Deep Creek. If your looking for wild exposure, fewer crowds, and a remote experience, Big Soddy is your crag.

Getting There Suggest change

The approach takes about 45 minutes:
From the Deep Creek parking lot, hike down to Deep Creek and continue following the Cumberland Trail as it wraps around the mountain. You will be able to see the Big Soddy cliff-line come into view, identifiable with its prominent "Visor" formation. The trail will cross a second bridge and switchback up toward the base of the wall. Keep an eye out for a climber's access trail that break off left from the Cumberland trail and takes you to the base of the Visor.
