Rule Changes Concerning Pets at Enchanted Rock State Natural Area to Take Effect March 1.
Beginning March 1, new rules will take effect at Enchanted Rock State Natural Area designed to balance the need to better protect sensitive natural habitats atop the rock, including the vernal pools, and still allow visitors to continue to enjoy central Texas’ most popular destination with their pets.
Starting Tuesday, pets will only be allowed in specified camping areas, day-use areas and the Loop Trail. Pets will no longer be allowed to accompany hikers on the Summit Trail that ascends to the top of Enchanted Rock.
Most trails, including the Summit Trail, are closed 30 minutes after sunset, allowing park visitors to view the sunset and safely descend to the parking lot. The Loop Trail is the only trail open after sunset to gain access to the primitive camping areas.

Description
Large boulders populate this infrequently visited area. Some of the best bouldering and some short routes reside here.
The two main boulders are The Foxhole Boulder and The Mausoleum Boulder. There may be other climbs around so just have fun exploring.

Getting There
This area is located down the hill from the Fear of Flying alcove.
Best Access
From the Loop Trail:
Travel east along the creek bed to a wash on the left (north).
Hike up the wash toward the large boulder in the trees.
Turn right (east) at the boulder and travel through the flat forested area along game trails.
Continue skirting the base of Buzzards Roost to an opening bound by bushes.
Turn left (north) through an opening in the bushes (or do a short bush whack).
Continue north and look for the large boulders on the right (west).
Other Access
From Fear of Flying Alcove:
1) Scramble directly down and look for the Mausoleum (not recommended with large pads or heavy pack).
2) Hike up toward Little Feat.
Either continue down then go right (east) or trend northeast past a large, mostly chossy, boulder field.
Continue until an easy path is located through the boulders then hike down (south).
Look for the large boulders on the right (west).
