Description

This free-standing tower sits about four miles east of Highway 85 and roughly 10 miles to the north of the park visitor center. At least four routes appear to have been done up the tower.

Similar adventure climbing peaks in southern Arizona are Weaver's Needle in the Superstition Mountions and the west face of Signal Peak in the Kofa Mountains.

Check in at the Visitor Center and ask to speak with a law enforcement ranger about possible criminal activity in the vicinity of Montezuma's Head. Request that the Border Patrol be notified of your climbing itinerary so you are not mistaken for smugglers.

Getting There

The tower is visible from Highway 85. Park along the side of the road at a spot west of the tower.

From the road, hike east about four miles, crossing numerous north-south running washes (that may or may not have foot traffic heading north from Mexico). Once near the base of the tower, follow the individual route descriptions as to where to start.
